Trip Overview: HELP guides JJC “second chancers” through the Padre Island National Seashore, the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world. Learning about this amazing landmark right in our backyard helps young people discover a broader profile of our community. This trip will include a plethora of educational opportunity, a hands-on shore side discovery, and an enlightening experience participating in a beach clean-up.
Information about the Site: The national seashore is 70 miles long and contains dunes, marine wildlife, and a wild world to explore. Students will see what role park rangers serve, the turtle team, and other careers found right on the shores of our beautiful beaches. In the summer months increased trash from the Gulf of Mexico travels to the shore with the help of the seaweed in bloom. Beach clean-ups are a vital part of keeping our shoreline pristine and flourishing for generations to come.
