Discharge papers are held in the strictest confidence and can only be accessed by the service member, his or her legal guardian, or authorization from the service member. Both the recording and certification of your DD-214 are FREE.

If you recorded your DD-214 prior to the launch of the "Thank A Vet" discount program, the County Clerk’s office can verify that your discharge is recorded and can then issue your "Thank A Vet" ID card.
