The role of the Medical Examiner’s Office is to conduct medico-legal death investigations for cases that fall under Medical Examiner jurisdiction, which include unnatural and unattended natural deaths.

The investigations consist of scene investigation, acquiring history from physicians, family, and law enforcement, and performing a forensic autopsy when deemed necessary.  Post-mortem toxicology on bodily fluids may also be performed.
