The Special Needs Diversionary Program is a specialized program facilitated by the Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County (aka MHMR). The juvenile is assigned a Case Manager at BHC. The case manager will focus on the juvenile's mental needs and offer medication therapy. They also provide mental health assessments and evaluations to determine the needs of youths, ages 10 to 17 years. Although not necessary, court orders are preferred for the "SNDP" program.

As a part of the evaluation process, an assessment is completed by a licensed professional. This assessment shows a list of needs that can then give access a comprehensive array of behavioral health services. These services are designed to improve a child's functioning and reduce symptoms.

Services include:

  • assessment
  • medication clinic
  • counseling
  • skills training
  • case management
  • family support
  • crisis intervention
  • inpatient crisis stabilization

The juvenile will meet with their Behavioral Health Center Case Manager once a week. This program is for high risk offenders.
